MIAPE Releases First Set of Guidelines for Reporting Three Types of Proteomic Data After five years of planning, the Proteomic Standards Initiative of the Human Proteome Organization last week released the first set of modules meant to serve as guidelines for how and what researchers should report about experiments. The guidelines cover mass spectrometry, mass spectrometry informatics, and gel electrophoresis.

Heart Researcher Will Use Mass Spec to Hunt Protein Signatures in Sudden Death Syndrome Antonio López-Farré of the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, Spain, will use the technology to look for protein signatures linked to sudden death syndrome. Genetic factors are one cause of the ailment but elicit no symptoms, making diagnosis especially challenging. López-Farré believes proteomics may find clues to the disease that genomics may not.
