U. Washington Team Uses Mass Spec
To Find 63 Novel Proteins in Fly Semen

The new method combines isotopic labeling with searching mass spec data against an entire translated genome. In addition to the new seminal fluid proteins, the researchers found 19 previously unannotated genes, illustrating “the power of combining proteomics with evolutionary biology to address fundamental questions about reproduction.”
